FAT Drone is a specialized social site for drone pilots. Pilots can present their work on the site and get hired directly through their profile which also shows their rating.
An original idea
We were approached by two keen drone pilots from the United Kingdom with the idea of a first-in-the-world app for drone pilots. The world of drones is still a new thing but the community has been growing steadily. Europe is yet to experience the drone boom. When this happens, we're ready to help with the FAT Drone portal!
A community of pilots
The primary purpose of the app is to advertise demand and supply. For faster results the web app supports search by location, drone type and job purpose. FAT Drone also connects drone pilots from all over the world. The app contains a forum which serves as a platform for discussion, opinion sharing, and solving problems. The FAT Drone blog posts tips and tricks and some useful information on training to pilots of all skills.
Technical specifications
We were supplied with the app's identity and the site’s design. We then handled the app's development – we designed the technological solution, then tested and tuned it. The app is fully responsible which allows for a smooth transition between platforms. The frontend is written in React; it is an effective technology which we use in all our web projects. For the backend we opted for Node.js and document-based MongoDB Atlas cloud database. This database allows automatic data synchronization between continents as well as automatic scaling so it can accommodate millions of users. Automatic backups is another useful feature as it prevents data loss in case of crash or server failure.
Service
Even when the development is over and the app is running, we are still maintaining it, taking care of it and working on new features.
About the development
FAT Drone doesn't have an external investor – the whole project is financed by the two founders. The whole project is fueled by trusting one’s idea and by enthusiasm. Details about the start of our cooperation are covered by this articleon our blog. You can also read about the final product here.
