Pardubické letní kino Rebel is the most visited holiday project of the region and is at the same time the biggest summer cinema in the Czech Republic. Over the years, the project has gained a good reputation and attracted countless film enthusiasts as well as many film-makers who regularly travel to Pardubice to present their films. High quality program and a unique screening experience annually bring thousands of citizens to the open air cinema.

Why the app?

Because the app offers more than a flyer does. The app offers the cinema’s program and information about movies with their respective trailers. The app sends notifications of the chosen movies’ screening time. The app also contains updated information for visitors, contacts and map for better navigation.

An app for everyone

When developing the app, we thought of both user bases. The app is available for both iOS and Android. We are no dinosaurs, so we write in Swift and Kotlin.

Searching for smart solutions

In this project, we used Cloud Firestore service in development for the first time. Cloud Firestore stores and synchronizes client data in a cloud database and allows sending push notifications to devices. All changes therefore automatically synchronize with every app launch. Thanks to this new library functions there was no need to write our own backend. We just modified some parts of the code such as the one for receiving notifications so that notifications work on newer versions of Android which initially were not 100% compatible with the library.

Design

The designers created a dark and bold UI. The icons used ensure that the flow is intuitive. Carefully selected typography and respecting its principles together with the chosen colors provide a pleasant user experience. Check out full case study on Behance.

For Pardubice from its people!

The idea and the whole concept came into existence because of our love for the summer cinema. The development was realized during a few techcrowd sessions, without any investor, only with the ardour of us all and with the goal of creating an app for the people of Pardubice. The app has been praised from the moment it was published. During the first two months, more than 700 users downloaded the app with more to come.
